A special Section for Voice Problems started in Century Hospitals
Hyderabad, 16th April 2023: On the occasion of World Voice Day, a special voice department was inaugurated at Century Hospital, Banjara Hills, one of the leading super specialty hospitals in the city. It was jointly started by Century Hospital and Melody Voice Clinic under the leadership of Dr. V. Phaneindra Kumar, a leading voice surgeon. A free counseling camp was also organized for those with voice problems on this occasion. In this, professionals from various walks of life were given medical examinations and necessary suggestions to protect their voices. The event was attended by noted music director R.P. Patnaik, former State Chief Minister Nadendla Bhaskara Rao, and many other special guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Hemant Kaukuntla, Vice President, of Century Hospital said, "Voice is very important to everyone. Since my voice is good, I may not know what the problem is. But for those who have a problem with their voice, knowing the way to correct that is a big problem. Today we are happy to set up a dedicated department at our Century Hospital to provide a good solution to so many such people. Special thanks to Dr. Phaneindra Kumar for coming forward in this regard. Anyone with any kind of vocal problems can come here without hesitation, get proper treatment and go with satisfaction. Special thanks to everyone who has come here on this occasion."
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Valluri Phaneindra Kumar, Senior Laryngologist and Phonosurgeon, Director, Century-Melody Voice Clinic said, "On the occasion of World Voice Day, Century Hospital and Melody Voice Clinic in Hyderabad are jointly launching a super specialty department called Voice, Airway, Swallowing, and Care of Professional Voice. For those who have voice problems, those who have difficulties in swallowing and eating, those who have difficulty in breathing, and those who still depend on the voice like Singers, dubbing artists, politicians, teachers, journalists, TV presenters, lawyers, religious leaders, businessmen, we are setting up a super specialty department for all of them. We started laryngology in our country 20 years ago. I am the founder and president of the Association of Phonosurgeons of India. In 2000, noted singer SP Balasubrahmanyam started the Melody Voice Clinic. After that, other specialties were also included in it. No matter what the problems are... there is treatment. We will first try to correct them with voice therapy. But for some others, phono surgery may be needed. Some may have paralysis in the larynx. That can come because of accidents or thyroid surgeries, or some other surgeries too. Such people can be treated with special laser surgeries, and they can get their voices back to normal. It is a matter of great pleasure to have such a special association with Century Hospital on the occasion of World Voice Day. This has enabled us to provide our services to more people. I would like to thank Dr. Hemant Kaukuntla, Vice President, Century Hospital, for giving me this opportunity."
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Nagender Kankipati, Founder and President, of Telangana Audiologists, Speech Language Pathologists Association, and Universal Association of Clinical Audiologists said, "This clinic is being set up to create awareness among the people about voice disorders. Most of us, knowingly or unknowingly, use the voice as we like. There are problems such as shouting over small things, talking loudly at home, and trying to mimic someone else. Some boys, even after attaining the age of puberty, will remain with the same female-like voice. Due to excessive use of the throat by professionals and lack of adherence to vocal hygiene tips, small vocal nodules, and polyps are formed on our larynx. This leads to problems such as the sore throat. We are educating all such people about voice management. Dr. Phaneindra Kumar is the first phono surgeon in entire India. He has performed surgeries and voice therapies for many singers across the country. It is a great pleasure that he has come forward and partnered with our association to train our audiologists and speech therapists. The role of speech therapists in voice therapy is crucial. Only 30% of those with problems need surgeries. Another 70% are cured with speech therapy. An advanced fellowship is being launched at Century Hospital. In this fellowship, audiologists and speech therapists will all be involved, and they can provide more services to the people. Thanks to Dr. Phaneindra Kumar for arranging such a training."
